Cookie Policy

Last updated: 10 March 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Elona Journal uses cookies and similar technologies on elona.info. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which sets out our broader data handling practices. By using our website and accepting cookies via the banner, you agree to the use of cookies as described below.

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, handheld device, or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, to remember your preferences, and to provide information about how visitors use a site.

Cookies are not programs and cannot run code or carry viruses. They contain only a small amount of data, typically an identifier that links your browser to information stored either on the website's server or within the cookie itself. Most cookies are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser; others persist on your device until they expire or you delete them.

2. Overview of Cookies We Use

Elona Journal uses three categories of cookie:

Category 1
Strictly Necessary

Required for the site to function. Cannot be disabled.

Category 2
Functional

Remember your cookie preferences. Enabled by default.

Category 3
Analytics

Understand reader behaviour in aggregate. Consent required.

3. Strictly Necessary & Functional Cookies

These cookies are essential to the functioning of the site. Under UK GDPR, strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. Functional cookies are set only after you make a consent choice in the banner.

Cookie Name Purpose Duration Category
orn_consent Stores your cookie consent choice (Accept All / Partial / Functional Only) 12 months Functional
orn_session Maintains your browsing session across page loads Session Strictly Necessary
orn_lang Remembers language preference if changed 12 months Functional

4. Analytics Cookies

Analytics cookies collect information about how visitors use the site — which pages are visited, how long readers spend on each article, and which content generates the most engagement. This data is aggregated and anonymised: it does not identify individual visitors.

Analytics cookies are only set if you choose "Accept All" or "Accept Selected" in the cookie banner. If you choose "Functional Only", no analytics cookies are placed.

Cookie Name Provider Purpose Duration
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes unique visitors (anonymised) 2 years
_ga_XXXXXXXX Google Analytics Persists session state 2 years
_gid Google Analytics Distinguishes visitors within a 24-hour window 24 hours

Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymisation enabled. Google's data handling is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Third-Party Cookies

The Contact page embeds a Google Maps iframe. If you interact with the embedded map, Google may set its own cookies. These are outside Elona Journal's control and are governed by Google's own cookie and privacy policies. We recommend reviewing Google's cookie documentation for detail.

This site does not use social media sharing buttons, embedded social feeds, or affiliate tracking cookies. No data is sent to social media platforms as a result of your visit to elona.info unless you separately navigate to a social media platform.

6. Managing Cookies via Your Browser

All modern browsers allow you to control cookies through the browser settings. You can delete existing cookies, block all cookies from being set, and configure your browser to notify you when a cookie is being set.

Note that blocking all cookies will affect the functionality of many websites, not just this one. In particular, you may not be able to make use of interactive features that depend on cookies.

7. Withdrawing Consent

You may withdraw or change your cookie consent at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the site footer. This will reopen the cookie consent banner, allowing you to revise your preference.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the legality of any data handling that took place before the withdrawal. If you wish to delete cookies already set on your device, use your browser's cookie management settings.
